The Charitable Fundraising Act 1991 outlines how a charity can legally undertake fundraising activities. The objects of the Act are:
to promote proper and efficient management and administration of fundraising appeals for charitable purposes
to ensure proper keeping and auditing of accounts in connection with such appeals, and
to prevent deception of members of the public who desire to support worthy causes
Many organisations conduct fundraising appeals in order to finance their charitable activities. If your organisation intends to fundraise for its charitable purposes it must hold an authority to fundraise.
The NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing uses GLS to administer Charitable Fundraising Authorities.
